Who Is Jesus?

Who is Jesus Christ? Understanding the Identity of Christ

The most important question you will ever ask is this:

Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus once asked His disciples this very question:

“Who do you say that I am?” — Matthew 16:15

The Bible teaches that Jesus is more than a teacher, prophet, or moral example. He is the Son of God, sent to rescue humanity from sin and restore our relationship with God.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” — Luke 19:10

“I and the Father are one.” — John 10:30

Sin, Death, & The Resurrection of Christ

The word sin literally means “missing the mark.” The mark is God’s perfect standard—living in full obedience and relationship with Him.

Scripture says:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23

No one meets that standard. But the heart of the gospel is this: God made a way.

In the Old Testament, a spotless lamb was sacrificed as payment for sin. Jesus fulfilled that symbolism once and for all. He lived a perfect, sinless life and willingly gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice.

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

Jesus (a name meaning “Savior”) is called the Christ (meaning “Anointed One” or “Messiah”). Christians believe He is the promised Savior sent by God.

Christian faith does not rest only on Jesus’ teachings—but on His resurrection.

The Bible records that Jesus rose from the dead three days after His crucifixion. He appeared to His disciples and to more than 500 witnesses before ascending into heaven.

“He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.” — Matthew 28:6

“He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time.” — 1 Corinthians 15:6

The resurrection transformed frightened followers into bold witnesses who spread the message of Christ across the world.

Ultimately, the question isn’t just historical—it’s personal.

Who do you believe Jesus is?

Scripture promises:

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16

Jesus’ invitation is not about religion—it’s about relationship. Forgiveness. Identity. Eternal life.
